SMOKE tents and road traffic accident demonstrations were just some of the attractions when Swadlincote Fire Station threw open its doors for the day.
The six-hour event took place on Saturday at the Civic Way station. Other attractions included fire engine displays, stalls and games, along with members of Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Community Safety Team members who were on hand to talk to visitors.
Proceeds raised at the event will go towards the Firefighters Charity, the Liberty Rose Trust, and The Support Dogs Charity.
A spokesman for Derbyshire Fire said: “The day went really well and lots of people turned up. “We enjoy running the annual open days, as it’s a great way to raise money for goods causes, and to promote our services and the work we do. “We would like to thank everyone who attended and supported the event.
We hope to have raised lots of money for the charities.”
We would like to thank Swadlincote Fire Station for supporting the Liberty Rose Trust

Johnny Eames said, “First of all I want to say what a great honour it is to be associated with The Indee Rose Trust. It’s a trust that’s run by the two parents that tragically lost their three year old girl to a brain tumor.
“Its an unbearable thing to think about really,” added Eames. “They have set up this trust fund to raise valuable cash to help children under the age of eighteen who are recovering from brain and spinal tumors.
“We’re privileged to put the Ultrachem TKO Gym name to the trust and we are, hopefully, going to put on a yearly football tournament to raise funds for the trust. The response, for the first tournament on the 25th July, has been fantastic. So many boxing stars, journalists and stars from music and television have pledged their support.
“It started as an idea, that grew, and thanks to these great people looks like it’s going to be a great event with 10 star packed teams taking part.
“I would also like to thank Canvey Island Football Club who have, not only loaned us their stadium for the 25th July tournament, but today I read have said that The Indee Rose Trust is to be their chosen charity for the coming season. Which is fantastic, and I would love to see our efforts bring more people to make it their chosen charity for this year.
“It’s not our charity for just this year though. For as long as Ultrachem TKO Gym is around The Indee Rose Trust will be our chosen charity and we’ll raise funds for the trust.
Finally I would like to thank the guys who have pledged their names to come and play at the tournament, as well as my own fighters. I know that everyone of them will be there on the day supporting the Indee Rose Trust.”

We have remade the original Animoto video that launched the Liberty Rose Trust. It tells the inspirational story of Liberty herself and how she was lucky enough to beat the brain tumour that threatened to take her life when she was just a baby.
click here to Be Child Cancer Aware
Three years on since Liberty was first diagnosed we are still striving to make a difference for children that have been affected by brain tumours and childhood Cancer not just through our own work but also through the work of the Be Child Cancer Aware campaign, a campaign that we a huge role in.
Being child Cancer aware can save lives, an early diagnosis can save lives just as it can with meningitis. Cancer in children is hard to face but that doesn’t mean we should turn away and pretend it doesn’t exist.
Thank you for supporting the Liberty Rose Trust and allowing us to help so many brave children and their special families. From raising awareness to providing day to day support for the families we couldn’t do this without your help.
Without you there wouldn’t be a wiggly bag fairy handing out FREE wiggly bags to children that need them.
Without you there would be no libertyrosetrust.org SUPERSTAR awards every year, which is our chance at rewarding some of the many brave children and young adults we meet along this very emotional journey and giving them and their families a night of memories to treasure for always.
Thank you for supporting the Liberty Rose Trust and making all this and so much more possible, you really are amazing x
If you would like to get involved then please email carl@libertyrosetrust.org and help us to carry on making a difference.

This Saturday saw a team of heroes from Harefield west London endure the 29 degree scorching heat to complete a 30 mile bike ride around the scenic Harefield waterways.
The route started from Black Jacks Lock on the Grand Union Canal tow path in Harefield, Middlesex, the brave Harefield Heroes, lead by Jason Moore, rode 15 miles to the Paper Mill pub in Apsley, Hertfordshire where the landlord, Mark Rawling, kindly put out iced water & fruit platters for the cyclists free of charge.
After the short pit stop and with the rear cheeks briefly rested the team headed back along the tow path on the Grand Union Canal to Black Jacks Lock notching up a further 15 miles before arriving at the finish line which by a stroke of luck, so I’m told, just happened to be next to the Harefield Pub in Harefield village. Obviously it would have been rude of our heroes not to accept the very kind hospitality offered by landlord’s Reg and Martin when their 30 mile ride was completed, though we have been assured none of the cyclists actualy sat down to enjoy their well earned first pint, with them all stating “its ok we’d rather stand up”
The day didn’t end there and we would like to thank Reg & Martin the landlords of the Harefield pub for putting on a BBQ after the bike ride for everyone to enjoy and for allowing the Harefield Heroes team to hold a raffle at the pub. The whole day from start to finish was a fantastic success and allot of great memories were created for everyone involved to treasure.
We spoke to the Liberty Rose Trust Event Manager who organised the days activities Hayley Moore, this is what she had to say……..”It was an amazing day, we were blessed with beautiful weather and all in all everything went fairly smoothly. We only had a couple of minor incidents with two of our cyclists. First off Richard, who was obviously too busy listening to his ipod, when had a slight disagreement with a tree branch during the ride, luckily the tree didn’t receive any permanent damage and Richard managed to make it to the finish line. He later claimed the branch just jumped out at him from nowhere which gave us all a right giggle. The second incident involved the Accident prone Paul who managed to ride into a 6″ step went head first over the handle bars and cut his knee! again everyone saw the funny side of this and simply laughed as poor Paul hobbled back onto his bike to complete the course”
Hayley went on to say……. ” at the beginning of the ride and at the half way point i was going round mothering everyone making sure they had sunscreen on and were drinking plenty of water, well it was 28 degrees after all. My personal assistant, Mia, did her bit to help at the midway point by raiding the fruit platters clearing them of any grapes she could sniff out. Everyone who completed the bike ride and came along for the BBQ has since been in touch and told us what a fantastic day it was. We really enjoyed organising the event and can’t wait to do it all again”.
We asked Hayley why she got involved with the trust and organised the event she replied……”Libby’s story really touched our hearts and we’d like to think if ever our children needed help, support, or funding for treatment that someone would help us as the Liberty Rose Trust does for so many special children & their families”
We’d like to thank the brave cyclists Cyclists: Jason Moore, Donna Orsmond, Colin White, Carly Gunn, Carole Henderson, Lee Payne, Dave Hopwood, Gary Elms, Malcolm, Brian, Tom Man, Richard, Pompy, Steve, Shane, Peter, Danny, Paul, Jem, Adam, Clive, Pat, The Cash’s for completing the 30 mile sponsored bike ride and we hope you are all able to once more sit comfortably on your bums.
We would like to thank British Waterways and Chris Stanley for allowing the event to take place
We would like to thank those that donated prizes for the raffle: Liverpool FC, Vicky Howell, Delta Force, Barbara Windsor, Steve McFadden, My Mummy’s Yummy Cupcakes, Donna Orsmond, Revive Beauty Salon, Maxine Carter, Brentford FC, Highgrove Pool, the PDC, Jenny Knight….. and those that donated auction merchandise: Phil ‘the power’ Taylor, Arsenal FC, Tony Hart, Wycombe Wanderers FC, Watford FC .
Above all else Liberty Rose Trust would like to give a very special thank you to the amazing lady that put so much time and effort into making this day the huge triumph that it was, Hayley Moore you and your team of Harefield Heroes are nothing short of legends, we will be eternally grateful for everything you have done to support the Liberty Rose Trust and children battling the leading cause of death in childhood Cancer, Brain Tumours.
Here’s to next event that Hayley’s Harefield Heroes organise, word on the grapevine is that it may involve a charity football match to which I’d like to add “my services as a Cantona’esk play maker are always available”
We are delighted to announce the fantastic news that Poppy Guilder’s new baby sister arrived safe and sound on Friday 4th June 2010 at 9.44am weighing 7lbs 11oz. Mum & Dad, Lisa & Brian, who run Poppyfields Charity are absolutely thrilled at the new addition to their family.
The birth of Lily Rose Guilder is all the more special after Lisa & Brian were told several years ago that they wouldn’t be able to have any more children. The sadness of this news was compounded when, their then only daughter, Poppy was diagnosed with a massive Brain Tumour.
We spoke to proud mum Lisa earlier, she said ”We are all very happy. Lily is beautiful and the double of big sister Poppy at the same age. Poppy cried when she met her new baby sister, it was a very precious moment and one we never thought we would see”
The joy of the new arrival was amplified today when the family received some more great news. Baby Lily is an almost perfect stem cell match for Poppy.
Although still in the early stages of research & development it is hoped that stem cells maybe able to help repair permanent damage caused to eyesight by Brain Tumours. What a fantastic thought for us all to cling onto that one day baby Lily Rose could help restore her big sisters damaged eyesight.
Congratulations to the Guilder family from all of us at the libertyrosetrust.org
